Can it be done? Comments?

Dumbo to Saltaire.  Would wait until next June 27 for lots of daylight, ride an outgoing tide at 4:15AM, try to reach the mouth of the inlet by 8:00PM (sunrise 4:27, sunset 7:31 - 15hrs 4min daylight).  Total distance is 55 miles.  Would need a perfect SW for a bit of a push in the ocean, so would have to watch the weather and be flexible about choosing the 26th or 28th (tide would work these days as well).

I'm not sure it could be done - 14 miles is the furthest I have gone - 6 hours for that distance.  I think I could have done it in 4.5 hours without breaks and paddling more consistently.  That still doesn't fit the 15 hour timeframe.  But what if we push on after dark, with LEDs, stay very close to shore...

The Mouth of Jamaica Bay, November 3rd, 2011

Launch from Plumb Beach, just off the Belt Parkway, Brooklyn.  Track is first, then photos.  Obviously there will be lots to explore in Jamaica Bay in the future.  When looking at the photos, remember this is all WITHIN New York City.

207 minutes, 8.25 miles.  The paddle back was against a strong current.
